I’m Judith Vander Wege, a Christian Writer, Composer, Bible Study Leader, child of God and follower of Jesus Christ.
Expressing my feelings on paper, and turning those feelings over to Jesus in a prayer, is what led me into freelance writing in the first place. A friend read those prayers and encouraged me to take a correspondence course from Christian Writers’ Guild. Norman Rohrer was the owner/teacher at that time. Because of his instruction and encouragement, I was able to sell my first article and series of devotionals on assignment. These were published in 1980. Later, I took other courses and attended many writers conferences.
Since then, I could write only part-time while busy earning a living and with hindrances like health and family problems. However, I’ve had nearly 300 manuscripts published. Among my published credits are: The Quiet Hour, ALCW Scope, Standard’s Devotions, Evangel, Aglow, Foursquare World Advance, Live, Power for Living, Vision, The Lutheran, Upper Room, Light From the Word, and Columbia Basin Herald.
I also love to write song lyrics. I play accordion at nursing homes and wrote songs to that accompaniment. After becoming a Senior Citizen, I went to Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa and earned a BA in Music Ministry, graduating in 2014. Then I was more equipped to arrange music for choirs and ensembles.
As a composer, I’ve had one tune published so far in Adrienne Tyndale’s book, “In Melody and Songs,” matching Isaac Watts’ lyrics with new tunes. Two of my anthems have been performed by the Sanctuary Choir of our church, First Reformed Church of Orange City. Two Christmas songs were also performed by the FRCOC children’s choirs. I’ve sung some of my other compositions as solos or duets in church and in my music ministry (with my accordion) at nearby nursing and retirement homes.
Through the years, I’ve been a member of Lutheran, Foursquare, C&MA and RCA denominations. My husband, Paul, is of Dutch descent, so we attend First Reformed Church (RCA) in Orange City, Iowa now. I’m active there in choir, circle, praise team, and a spiritual vitality ministry team. I’m also a group leader at the community Bible Study called Coffee Break.
This is the church I attended as a child when I first heard “Jesus loves you“from a Sunday School teacher.
This is my husband, Paul E. Vander Wege. We married in February of 2006. Our former spouses had died of cancer.
My purpose with this web site is to invite people to join me in learning to trust our merciful God more completely. I hope you enjoy an intimate relationship with Him, experiencing His love, hope and healing.
