The devotional I read today, from a booklet named “I Hear His Whisper,” assures me that God knows what lies ahead. He knows what I will be experiencing in the future. Will I fade away or live for years yet on this earth?
Since I am 83 years old, I wonder if my “calling” is nearly finished? Have I done the work he wanted me to do?
In the New King James Version, Jesus is called the “author” of salvation to all who obey him. (Hebrews 5:9). (worded “source of salvation” in the RSV. In the NIV study Bible he is called, “the author of eternal salvation.” Jesus caused the eternal work of salvation, finishing it on the cross.
I’m not sure if I’m reading too much into this, but I like to think that, because of Jesus’ atonement, he wrote the book of my life. I didn’t become spiritually alive until I accepted the gift of grace he offered me, but then he became my author. He wrote the book of my life.
This gives me confidence that my story will end well. Meanwhile, God is majestic and all-powerful. He is able to provide for all my needs. He has already given me the greatest gift of forgiveness, so I know that whatever else he gives, or allows, he will use for my good.
Here is a song that speaks of trusting the God I can’t always see or understand:
To Him Who Rides Upon the Clouds
.
To Him who rides upon the clouds, I lift my voice in purest praise.
I know what e’er He has allowed, He’ll use in love my heart to raise.
For He’s forgiven all my sin, redeemed my soul from death and hell.
In goodness, surely, He provides all things I need to serve Him well.
.
And if I seek Him when He hides, I’ll find He’s faithful to restore
the joy of His redeeming grace, the sunshine of His glorious face,
the peace of knowing He is coming. I’ll be with Him evermore.

I love this truth that God has written your story, so it will end well. And what a lovely song!
