A Gift of Victory

“Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory

through our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Corinthians 15:57 NIV).

I stumbled along on my scheduled walk, feeling sorry for myself. I mumbled, Everything I do lately seems to be because “I have to.”  Even my prayers seem stilted. I hung my head, thinking about my problems. “Lord, why can’t my life be fun, like others? And why won’t you speak to me?”

As I continued walking, I began to enjoy the cool, fresh air. As I breathed deeply, I looked up and saw the white, fluffy clouds floating in a pure blue sky, each shape unique and interesting. I began to feel guilty for my attitude, remembering Ephesians 5:20 says “Always and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.” (RSV)

Walking on, I noticed a glowing park bench, beautified by the sunshine. On the opposite side, the pond reflected the blue sky and clouds, while mallard ducks with green iridescent necks reflected the sunlight’s aura.

I started praising and thanking God for the beauty of nature and asked Him to forgive me for my bad attitude. God had given me the victory over my emotions.

Then, as if he saved the best for last, I saw His masterpiece—a spectacular sunset! As I stood and watched it change shape, reflecting on the trees and grasses, I felt as if He was saying to me, “I love you. Here is a gift for you. I hope it will bring joy to you.”

As I walked back home, I sang a praise song and then quoted the following poem with joy and praise to the Lord.

Healing Elements

A soft, gentle breeze caresses my skin. Uplifting my spirit, it soothes me within.

I gaze at the sunset, with awe contemplate the marvelous beauty my God did create.

Music is healing, music gives wings to soar above problems this troubled earth brings.

LORD, you give the music, You made the sunsets, You are the breeze to my soul.

Thank you, LORD.
