Reflections About the Star

What was God saying through the famous Bethlehem star? First, He lit up the sky with angels, letting the shepherds know the good news that Jesus, His Son and their Savior was born. Then he lit up the sky with a phantasmagorical star to lead the wise men thousands of miles all the way from the East to Bethlehem! Why?
I’m sure that God, being God, always has reasons for what he does.
The following song, “King of Our Hearts,” kept going through my mind this year as we approached New Year’s. I asked the Lord, “where are you leading me? It seemed He asked me to “Listen for the song’s deeper meaning.”
King of Our Hearts
Why would a star be shining so brightly? What does it mean?? Why does it seem to be singing?
Night after night we’ve studied the heavens, hoping to learn what is this star’s special meaning.
“Friends, let me tell you an ancient prophecy: In the land of Israel, a star will soon appear.”
Could this mean a ruler of power and majesty comes to set the whole entire world free from sin?
Let’s go and find this King of the whole earth, follow his star, travel afar till we find him.
Let’s find this King of our hearts. Yes, let’s find this King of our hearts.

Knowing that the star shone so brightly back then, leading the wise men to find and worship Jesus, convinces me:
          1. God keeps his promises (Genesis 3:15, Isaiah 9:6, Micah 5:2, Luke 2;11, John 3:16)
          2. Jesus, the light, guides those who are wise enough to follow him, acknowledge him, follow his guidance, and recognize that he is God the Son.
          3. God, who is powerful enough to put a magnificent star in the sky, is powerful enough to work for good in our lives.
           4. The star seemed to be singing because it was praising God as the angels did. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. (Psalm 19:1 NIV). God has given us our voices, and loves it when we praise him by singing, as well as in other ways.
What is this star’s special meaning? God wanted to shine the light of His love into our hearts, so God guides us to Jesus, the light of the world. After Adam and Eve sinned, darkness reigned over the earth. But since Jesus came from heaven to earth, “Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5 RSV).
I praise God for shining his light into my soul.
