“Mommy, Mommy, can I wake up to you now?”
The voice of my young son, calling from the foot of the basement stairs, awakened me.
My heart went out to him and I went to gather him in my arms. We had recently rearranged
bedrooms in our house to accommodate a foster child. My little one loved to play in the playroom,
which was in the basement, so I thought he might love to sleep there also. Many years later, he told
me he had been scared down there all alone. Too late, I deeply regretted our decision to have him
sleep down there.
When I first woke up to God, at the age of nine, He assured me He wanted to have a personal
relationship with me. He wanted to walk and talk with me daily. He didn’t want to be distant, would
not “stick me in the basement for convenience.”
When we can’t see or hear God, it is easy to think He doesn’t love us and be scared. But His
Word, the Bible, assures us He does love us. As I read and study the Bible and talk with him in prayer,
my spirit can hear Him speak lovingly to me.
Prayer:
Father God, thank you that I can wake up to You daily. Thank you that you are always
present, always ready to gather me into your arms, to listen and reassure me and help me.
Amen
One time, as an adult, I was going through heartache and confusion, thinking God didn’t care. Then one day it seemed like I could hear him singing to me. As I listened, I realized He was speaking to me in my spirit. Following is the song that resulted. He reassured me and gave me “Comfort.”
Comfort (Jesus Sings to Me)
“Let me sing a song to you. Let me know if you are feeling blue.
Brush those tears away. Lift your eyes and pray.
I will be your friend, love you ’til the end,
for I came to save you from the tyranny of sin.
Give your heart to me. Life abundantly is what I will give you
when you trust in me to set you free.”
.
“I will wipe away your tears.
Perfect love will cast out all your fears.
Yes, I gave my life, just to end your strife.
When you come to me gold is what I see.
I know you are precious and I want you to be mine.
Clouded now by sin, dirt and dross within.Yield to my refining.
When the trials are done, how you will shine.”
.
